Through our exciting and thorough transition programme, we enable our students to take confident next steps into higher education.
We get to know them as individuals; recognising and tackling the challenges they may face, whilst boosting their self-esteem, communication and leadership skills to successfully discover, realise, honour and shape their potential in the Sixth Form and beyond.
Our Sixth Form Transition Programme is detailed below or you can read our guide for current 12 students:
Hear from members of our Sixth Form and Senior Leadership Teams as well as representatives of our student body. Scheduled talk times will be published at the start of January. We look forward to seeing you there.
Our application window is open.
All applications are made online via the link below.
Please make sure you complete every section with full details so we are able to keep in touch with you and let you know about key events that are happening during the year. If you experience any difficulty using the online application form please contact Mrs Harvey harveyl@denmarkroad.org
We reserve a place for all our current students who meet our admissions criteria. Our full Admissions Policy is available to read below. We also welcome over a third of our cohort from other schools. We appreciate that moving schools is a big decision and start to work with you on this transition from the point of discussion around your application.
Following receipt of your application we will invite you to discuss your personalised pathway, you will then be sent a conditional offer.
Should you be unsuccessful in gaining a place at enrolment you are eligible to appeal, please contact admissions@denmarkroad.org.
Every single applicant to our Sixth Form will be offered an in-person 1:1 appointment with a member of our Sixth Form or Senior Leadership Teams. Refreshments will be available in our Sixth Form Café and you'll meet many other applicants and their families.
The appointment is a chance to discuss your personalised pathway, curated from our wide range of curriculum options and tailored to your individual needs. Following this appointment you will be sent a personalised offer for entry into our Sixth Form.
In July all our Sixth Form applicants are invited to join us for two Taster Days.
There will be opportunities to experience taster lessons, team building activities, meet the Sixth form team as well as some our current Year 12 students. You will be able to experience what Denmark Sixth Form has to offer as well as hopefully make some new, life long friends in the process.
On Thursday 22nd August 2024 all Year 11 students will receive their GCSE results. This can be a very nerve-wracking and exciting day but rest assured our experienced team is on hand to celebrate with and support you every step of the way.
Denmark Road High School students will be able to collect their results in person at an allocated time. All who have met the entry requirements will be able to enrol directly after receiving their results with a member of our team either in person or by phone.
Students who have applied from other schools will be able to enrol in person, or by phone, from 10am.
The first day in September sees only Years 7 and 12 on site. This is a chance for all those new to the school to explore and settle in, without the entire student body in the school.
On this day, all network and Restaurant logins will be established and timetables will be given out.
Early in Term 1 all Year 12 students and their parents/carers are invited to attend a Welcome and Social Evening.
A chance to meet your Tutor and other teachers, plus parents/carers of other students, this is a great social occasion.
The Parents & Staff Association run a licenced bar and there are plenty of refreshments to enjoy.
A talk from our Sixth Form team will help outline key dates for the year and what to expect as a new student at Denmark Road Sixth Form.
During Term 1, parents/carers are invited to join their child for a meeting with their Tutor. It's an opportunity to get to know them 1:1 and share any thoughts or ways they can help you as an individual over the next two years.
Our entire Sixth Form team regularly check in with our Year 12 students throughout the Year. Along with a brilliant team of Tutors, they provide mentoring and support for each individual.
Sixth Form students regularly lead our BOOST Programme to empower and enable students to understand that everyone has the ability within themselves to make good life choices, no matter who they are or what their background.
As a Young Minds Matter Trailblazer school, we have great access to a network of support should our team feel the need to make a referral. If a student is referred to Trailblazers, they will come and visit the student at our site within school hours to support them.
There are a range of trips and activities for Year 12 students, including celebration trip to the German Christmas Market in Birmingham and the popular Winter Ball for the full Sixth Form.
