Pupil Premium

“Nothing less than positive progress and well-being for all"

At Denmark Road High School, we are committed to ensuring that every student receives the very best responsive and adaptive learning and teaching in the classroom through Quality First Teaching.  Our "DRHS 6" Teaching and Learning strategy has a structure to further improve pupils' learning culture at Denmark Road, with particular focuses on Relationships and Classroom Climate, Planning and Implementation, DRHS+, Effective Retrieval Practice, Inclusive and Responsive Teaching and Effective Checking for Understanding. This facilitates our aim to ensure all students are active leaders of their own learning.

Low social mobility and lack of educational opportunity is arguably the biggest social challenge of our times: the income gap between the richest and poorest in society continue to widen, while education opportunities remain overwhelmingly dominated by children from the most privileged homes.

Sutton Trust, 2014

In addition to our determined efforts to further improve our culture of responsive learning and teaching, Denmark Road’s ‘Pupil Premium Promise’ will enable every Pupil Premium eligible student to fulfil their potential and achieve success, both inside and outside of the classroom. We offer this promise to ALL of our students. Staff will use data to support their accurate understanding of ALL students needs, so that all colleagues can responsively support student’s holistic development: ‘positive progress and wellbeing for all’.

As part of our “Pupil Premium Promise” at Denmark Road High School, our Pupil Premium cohort have a designated member of staff and a team of specialist pastoral support members of staff to assist with any additional academic or wellbeing needs, whilst also providing enhanced communication and support to eligible families. Pupil Premium students will also receive a one-to-one Personal Profile meeting twice a year with their designated member of staff, as well as termly tutor-based mentoring, to support and monitor the individual journeys our Pupil Premium students are following. Students eligible for Pupil Premium will also have a priority focus over their Discover+ Options as part of our Pupil Premium Promise.

Denmark Road High School also guarantees that every Pupil Premium eligible child will be able, and actively encouraged to take part in the whole school experience without financial discrimination. Pupil Premium funding is not allocated to individual students; it is awarded to the school to ensure students receive the very best education – and this starts with excellent learning and teaching. Evidence from the EEF clearly shows that teachers have the biggest impact on all student outcomes and this is where the majority of our funding is spent. We do recognise that for some families there may be financial hardship. If you currently have financial concerns and would like the opportunity to pay for trips, music lessons, uniform or other opportunities in instalments, or to discuss a financial contribution, please email yauj@denmarkroad.org who will be able to discuss this further with you on a one-to-one basis. Our aim is that all eligible students to have equal opportunity for participation, leadership and opportunity in all areas of life at Denmark Road High School.

At Denmark Road High School, we aim for our ‘Pupil Premium Promise’ to provide the platform for every eligible child to have equal and equitable opportunities at fulfilling their dreams and potential.

Details of our spend and strategy for 2024-25 can be found in the document below.
