Parental Consent

How we collect consent

It is vital that we hold accurate records of parental consent for our students and also communication consent for yourself. Those with parental responsibility are able to update the consents we hold. At Denmark Road we gather consent information as part of the admission process via Applicaa, however we encourage you to check the consent information we hold each September and update accordingly.

Seven consents need to be “checked” in Edulink (you can log into Edulink to update your consents here). The below information explains what you are giving consent for. Please read it carefully and contact the school if you have any questions.

Denmark Road High School students must have permission from a parent or carer who has read the ICT Acceptable Use and the Acceptable Use BYOD agreements.

"As the parent or carer, I have read this agreement and understand that access to electronic information services is designed for educational purposes. I understand that, whilst the Internet Service Provider operates a filtered service, it is impossible for Denmark Road High School to restrict access to all controversial materials and will not hold the school responsible for materials acquired on the network. I also agree to report any misuse of the system to the school".

By ticking against ‘ICT Acceptable Use’ on Edulink you give permission to Denmark Road High School to permit your child access to electronic information services and you certify that the information the school holds for you is correct.

By ticking against ‘School Activities Consent’ in Edulink you consent to:

 Your child taking part in school activities during and after-school, including sports fixtures (both on- and off-site)

 Your child taking part in Adventurous activities on the school site

For most off-site activities offered by our school, during the school day, which are part of our curriculum or whole school visits within the local area – for example, events at Gloucester Cathedral – we will:

 Tell you in advance what they are and when they will happen

 Give you chance to withdraw consent for that specific activity

For off-site activities that are residential or require specific consent (e.g. day visits which are a significant distance from school or trips outside of school hours), we will instead:

 Provide you with details in advance, including payment information

 Ask you to separately confirm (payment for the visit will be taken as consent being given) or withdraw your consent for your child to attend

By ticking against ‘Trips and Visits Consent’ in Edulink you consent to:

 Your child taking part in school trips and other activities that take place off school premises during the school day

You are aware that you will have an opportunity to withdraw your consent before any trip or visit including residential trips, or any other trips that requires specific consent.

By ticking against ‘Emergency Treatment Consent’ on Edulink you consent to:

 Your child to be given first aid by a member of staff during any on-site or off-site activity

 Your child receiving urgent dental, medical or surgical treatment, including anaesthetics, as may be considered necessary by the medical authorities present, provided that the delay required to obtain my signature might be considered, in the opinion of the doctor or surgeon, likely to endanger your child’s health or safety. You, therefore, authorise the Activity Leader(s) to sign, on your behalf, any written form of consent required by hospital authorities should medical treatment be necessary.

 A member of school staff to sign on your behalf any medical consent forms, if your child should require emergency treatment and you cannot be contacted.

If you do not give consent, please email popek@denmarkroad.org to explain your reasons.

On occasion, we are able to administer paracetamol to students. We require parental permission to do this and would ask you to consent if you are happy for your child to be given paracetamol within recommended guidelines. We will contact you if we feel there is a cause for concern. Please note, a record will be kept of the time given and paracetamol dosage. We will not give paracetamol before 11am at school, unless directed by a medical professional.

By ticking against ‘Paracetamol Consent’ you give consent for your child to be given Paracetamol whilst at school or whilst on trips or visits.

With effect from 25th May 2018 new legislation for data protection was introduced by the Government regarding how schools use students’ personal data to meet official responsibilities as a school.

Students aged 12+ years old are deemed capable of providing consent to the processing of their own data. Most of our data processing does not require consent; however, a specific area where we are required to gather specific consent is the use of photographs. If your child is under 12 years old, we would ask that you read the details below regarding consent for the use of photos and images.

There are a number of times during a student’s time in school that photographs or videos may be taken of individuals or groups of individuals. This ranges from the formal photos used for school records through to sporting events that may be photographed or filmed to celebrate success in the newsletter or online. We use these images and footage as part of our school displays, assemblies, newsletters and sometimes in other printed and online publications including the school website and social media accounts.

Under the General Data Protection Regulations, we are required to ask for consent from parents/carers of all students aged 11 and under for all photos that are not taken to meet our official functions in the public interest.

We require consent for the following photograph/video uses:

• Consent for your child to be photographed by a professional company and be provided with the opportunity to purchase those photos. (If consent not given, the photo will still be taken but its use will be limited to the school’s official functions)

• Consent for your child’s photographs / videos to be used within school for display purposes.

• Consent for your child’s photograph to be used in publications (paper and online) celebrating the work of the school and its students. This could include our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, newspapers and other outlets.

• Consent for your child’s photograph to be used in school marketing material such as prospectuses, website photography and advertising. This will be limited to specifically marketing the school and no third parties but may be used after the individual has left the school.

By ticking against ‘Photo Consent’ on Edulink you give consent for photograph/videos of your child to be used for the above reasons.

The consent is valid until your child reaches the age of 12. When your child reaches that age, the school will seek the same consent from them, which will override any parental consent given. While your child is 11 years old or under you may withdraw your consent at any time by notifying the school via email to reception@denmarkroad.org.

The school will routinely share news of events and activities and will publicise fundraising initiatives and successes.

By ticking against ‘Consent to receive electronic marketing communications’ you give consent to receiving electronic marketing communications
