Our Sixth Form Centre provides high quality A Level Provision opening the doors to Higher Education, Apprenticeships and the world of work. Our subjects build cultural capital – the accumulation of knowledge, behaviours and skills necessary to succeed. Our inspirational staff are creative, they fire the imagination of our students through a combination of intellectual challenge, expert subject knowledge and mutual trust. Recognising the importance of subject mastery, we offer the super-curricular challenge required for study at Russell Group Universities. Every subject provides opportunity to explore beyond the confines of the exam specification.
At Denmark Road we know that academic outcomes are not enough to secure the future that our students want for themselves. Employers want more. Universities ask for more. Our students deserve more.
Time is dedicated for students to delve into subjects beyond the constraints of exam specifications. Students experience the joy of learning. Our expert staff guide the development of professional and life skills while signposting students to the latest blogs, podcasts, journals, documentaries, competitions, books, and other resources from their own subjects and beyond. Time to explore these gives our students the freedom to be curious.
Our Sixth Form Discover+ offer creates a space for subject mastery, leadership & service and personal growth. Students focus on developing in these areas:
Sixth Form students are currently enjoying a wide range of Discover+ programmes: British Sign Language, photography, games development, Greenpower, film studies, fashion illustration, Medics, Vets & Dentistry. This is just a sample of the wide-ranging choices on offer; there really is something to pique every interest.
The EPQ Course provides an exciting opportunity for students to go on a personal research journey. They set themselves a challenging question and pursue their own path to answer it. This can be a written academic essay or an artefact they make. The course involves a taught skills element and extended autonomous work.
At Denmark Road, we offer a 3 +1 model to students in our sixth form. All students study 3 A Levels alongside one additional subject. Most additional subjects are taught in Year 12 only with a qualification gained at the end of Year 12. Some students select a fourth A Level subject to complete over two years. 3 A Level subjects + 1 additional course enables our students to pursue their interests without being constrained by a potentially narrowed curriculum where all 3 A Level subjects are in similar fields.
