Student wellbeing and online safety have been central to the planning of the Denmark Road 1:1 programme.
Our aim is to create a safe, balanced and supportive digital learning environment. Students will use their devices to enhance learning, research, creativity and organisation, while also developing the digital skills they will need in further education and beyond.
We recognise that technology brings both opportunities and responsibilities. The growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), for example, can support research, idea generation and independent learning when used appropriately. At the same time, students will be taught about academic integrity, the importance of acknowledging AI use where required, and the need to think critically rather than relying solely on technology.
We are also mindful of physical wellbeing. The device has been chosen to support a variety of ways of working, including the use of a stylus, touchscreen and keyboard. This flexibility encourages movement and helps support good posture. As part of our blended learning approach, students will regularly move between digital activities and traditional pen-and-paper work throughout the day.
The device is lightweight and easy to carry in the protective case provided. To help keep devices safe, students should keep them in their case and inside their school bag when travelling to and from school.
During the school day, devices are used only when directed by staff. We believe it is important that students also have opportunities to socialise, take part in physical activity and enjoy the wide range of extracurricular activities available at Denmark Road.
Denmark Road uses educational safeguarding and monitoring software to help ensure devices are used safely and appropriately. This includes:
These measures help create a safe online environment while supporting students in making responsible choices when using technology.
The devices can also help students stay organised and manage their learning effectively. They provide access to tools for planning, reflection and organisation, helping students develop independence and confidence in their studies.
Students will be guided on both the appropriate and inappropriate uses of Generative AI (GenAI). Appropriate uses may include brainstorming ideas, exploring topics and receiving feedback on work. Inappropriate uses may include submitting AI-generated work as their own, using AI without permission where required, or failing to check information for accuracy.
By teaching students how to use technology responsibly, Denmark Road aims to help them become confident, capable and ethical digital citizens.
