Denmark Road High School is diverse, reflective and supportive. Some of my favourite experiences in my time here were the fundraisers and charity events that both staff and students put on. We regularly had jumble sales in aid of relevant causes such as the Children in Gaza Crisis Appeal, helping us to; clear out things we don’t need any more, actively be more sustainable and focus on how we can support those in crisis across the world. Plus they’re fun events and there’s always a real buzz amongst everyone as they buy and sell in the hall.
My teachers encouraged us to discover our own interests and take time for us, away from our studies. We were not set homework over half terms and holidays and this helped to get some balance in what can sometimes be a stressful time. I used this time to focus on my other interests such as media – particularly film and television – and enjoyed relaxing with my friends.
I’ve learnt that the years go by really quickly so it is important to value your time and the process you take to get somewhere. It doesn’t seem long ago that I was with the rest of Bearland House as we cheered for them winning House Music in my first Year at DRHS - it’s such a clear memory of how I felt a part of the Bearland team - and now I am considering my future options and what I’d like to do as a career! Currently i'm studying at University before hoping to move into domestic or foreign intelligence as I think that would be fascinating and relevant to my favourite subjects of History and Politics.
Though I don’t know exactly what the future holds I am sure that the friends I have made at DRHS will be there to support each other for a long time to come.
